A year after trading away Deshaun Watson, the Houston Texans have positioned themselves to have a quick rebuild.
The mathematics and statistics would say that Houston should probably take another year dwelling at the bottom of the standings to guarantee themselves another top draft selection to add to their core.
That being said, the Texans are also poised to win more games in this upcoming 2023-2024 NFL season than many would have expected.

In the previous draft, the Texans landed the second-overall pick due to an abysmal 3-13 record in the 2022-2023 season.
With the second selection in the draft, Houston identified their quarterback of the future, the man under center who will hopefully lead them out of the Deshaun Watson era and into a brighter future than even Watson could bring them. That man is C.J. Stroud out of Ohio State.
Along with him, the Texans added a whole slew of rookies to their roster, including trading back up into the first round to take Will Anderson Jr. out of the University of Alabama.

It cost them their first-round selection in 2024, which only gives the Texans more reason to try to win as many games as possible in the upcoming season and try to garner meaningful game reps for all of their young players.
With Stroud slinging the ball and Anderson leading the defense off of the edge, Houston now has two franchise cornerstones on opposite sides of the pigskin, ready to bring the Texans back to relevancy.
Aside from the second-overall pick, their miserable campaign in 2022-2023 also gifted the Texans a laughably breezy non-division schedule for next year. Houston has two very winnable games against the Arizona Cardinals and the Denver Broncos.
Drawing the New York Jets who just added Aaron Rodgers is a tough break, but they should be able to compete against both the Cards and the Russell Wilson-led Broncos.

Getting the NFC East should give them a few wins as well. Their matchups against the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Atlanta Falcons should allow for at least two wins if C.J. Stroud lives up to his draft hype.
Even the Carolina Panthers wouldn’t be a shocking win for the Houston Texans. With a strong draft, incentive not to tank, and a Charmin-soft non-division schedule, the Houston Texans should be poised to win more games than most fans, analysts, and pundits expected heading into draft night.
