Jimmy Butler has always been one of the hardest players in the NBA to properly rank among his peers, simply because a lot of what he does can’t be quantified in a standard box score.
Advanced analytics allows the pundits and even the average fan to grasp his overall impact in a better way by showing all the different avenues in which he can affect a game, such as his on-ball and off-ball defense and his ability to manipulate defenses as a playmaker, but even they can’t paint the full picture of what he does in the span of a 48-minute basketball game.

It’s only become harder to place him in the NBA’s pantheon ever since he established himself as one of the greatest playoff risers the game has ever seen. Those who might try to peg him just using his regular season averages might come to the conclusion that he’s a tad overrated, considering the respect he’s earned from the more dedicated viewer and his fellow All-Stars.
But any fan who comes across a classic Jimmy Buckets outing in the postseason will be able to appreciate the way he’s able to take his game to the next level when the lights get brighter and the pressure is magnified.

Although he’s not the most skilled player in the league or the most athletic, Butler finds ways to dominate when he’s needed the most, whether it be getting to the line, creating offense for his teammates, or relentlessly attacking the defense at the rim and in the midrange area.
Even with his limited offensive repertoire, he’s undeniable when the stakes are their highest.
He proved his playoff lore again in Game 4 against the Milwaukee Bucks. With the Heat splitting their two-game opportunity with Giannis Antetokounmpo out and Tyler Herro lost for the series, it seemed a foregone conclusion that the Bucks would regain control of the series with the Greek Freak back in tow.
But with the odds stacked against him, Butler put up another masterful performance to put the Heat in a nearly insurmountable 3-1 advantage in the series.
Ending the night with 56 points on an absurd 19-28 shooting, cementing his legacy with the greatest individual scoring performance by a Miami Heat in playoff history.
With all of the Hall-of-Famers that have suited up for the franchise, Jimmy Butler may have put himself in consideration among LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and others for one of the best to ever do it in Miami.
