The Pirates are one of the worst teams in the league. Their 45-68 record puts them firmly in the bottom ten. The best two words I could use to describe their season would be “dumpster fire.” They have only won two of their last eight games and have six total victories in the second half of this season.

The Giants are also not having a great season, but they are better than the Pirates. Their 55-57 record places them in third place in the NL West, but they can make the Playoffs if they turn their season around now. They are 7.5 games out of the third Wild Card spot and beat the Pirates last night 5-3. Carlos Rodon provided San Francisco with a nice outing; he threw six innings and only gave up two runs while striking out seven.

Outfielder Mike Yastrzemski had some clutch hitting and had three RBIs. To finish off the game, the Giants brought in Camilo Doval. Doval threw a scoreless inning and struck out one to get the save.

I would bet on the Giants to win this game. They are sending ace Logan Webb to the mound to go up against Tyler Beede. Beede has only started two games this year and thrown a combined five innings in those starts. He spent his career moving between the bullpen and rotation, so it is safe to say he is not the most reliable guy. On the other hand, Webb has been a bright spot in San Francisco’s rotation. He has a 10-5 record with a 3.17 ERA and 1.15 WHIP.

On this day, San Francisco is putting a much better team on the field. Their bullpens are both struggling, but the Giants’ starting pitching is better. In addition, the Giants’ offense scores almost one more run per game than the Pirates.

This is not a hard call. Bet on the Giants to win and cover the spread.
